Wang Yi Meets with Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng of Brunei

On August 6, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng of Brunei before attending the series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Manila of the Philippines.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Brunei have went through the historical process of overcoming difficulties, eliminating interference and continuously developing during the process of China-ASEAN development, and both countries feel pleased with the significant achievements yielded from current China-ASEAN relations. With joint efforts of the two sides, China and ASEAN countries have reached an agreement on the framework of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) in advance, winning positive appraisal from the international community. China hopes to intensify coordination with Brunei to enable the series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation this year to fully reflect the positive changes and the significant progresses made in China-ASEAN relations and the South China Sea situation over the past year, and focus on the future dialogue and cooperation. China and Brunei have maintained sound relations, and the two countries consistently support and understand each other. China welcomes the Sultan of Brunei to China as the head of the country of honor for the China-ASEAN Expo this year to attend the opening ceremony of the Expo and pay a state visit to China, which are not only conducive to promoting China-Brunei relations, but also will facilitate the development of China-ASEAN relations.

Lim Jock Seng said that Brunei and China enjoy a sound relationship with very close diplomatic communication and economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The Bruneian side and the ASEAN attach great importance to China, and ASEAN-China relations are of vital importance to peace and development in the region. Both Brunei and the ASEAN feel gratified to reach an agreement on the framework of the COC. The significant progress contributes to boosting the confidence of the countries in the region in safeguarding regional peace. The Bruneian side will continuously play a positive role to prevent individual negative factor from disturbing and interfering in the sound development of ASEAN-China relations.
