SITUATIONAL UPDATE INFLUENZA A (H1N1)- 5 NEW CASES OF INFLUENZA A (H1N1) CONFIRMED IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

The Ministry of Health has confirmed seven new cases of Influenza A (H1N1), bringing the total in the country to 25 cases.

  • The 21st case involves a 28-year-old female who arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 23rd June 2009, after visiting Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia together with her family. Previously, the patient also just arrived from Dubai on the 22nd June 2009.

  • The 22nd case is a 13 year-old girl who went to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia with her family and arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 22nd June 2009. The patient developed symptoms on the 25th June 2009 and seek medical attention on the same day.

  • The 23rd case is a 22-year-old male and the 24th case is a 35-year-old male. Both patients are passengers on the flight BI089 which arrived in Brunei Darussalam on the 24th June 2009 from the United Kingdom, London, via Dubai.

  • The 25th case is a 12-year-old girl who is a close contact of case 19. The patient shows symptoms on the 26th June 2009 and was confirmed to be infected with Influenza A (H1N1) on the same day.

Currently there are no patients discharged from quarantine and all patients are still undergoing treatment and are in good condition.
Once again, Ministry of Health continues to advise the public who has recently returned from overseas trip to voluntarily reduce social activities and interactions for 7 days. Members of the public are also advised to monitor their health and seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms. Precautionary steps by practicing good personal hygiene should be practiced at all times.
