Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov of Uzbekistan

On August 19, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov of Uzbekistan in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed, Mr. Foreign Minister is welcome to visit China and attend the inauguration of the new premises of the Uzbek Embassy in China. The completion of the new premises, as a symbol of friendship between the two countries, will build a bridge for both countries to deepen cooperation. China and Uzbekistan are good neighbours sharing weal and woe, good friends with sincerity and mutual trust and good partners of win-win cooperation. Under the strategic guidance and personal promotion of President Xi Jinping and President Shavkat Mirziyoye, the China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership has maintained a sound momentum of rapid development. Political mutual trust between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated and the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has yielded fruitful results. The two countries firmly support each other on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns, effectively safeguarding their common interests. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Uzbek side to deepen all-round cooperation, and continue to enrich their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi emphasized, China and Uzbekistan should work in close coordination and make full preparations for high-level mutual visits in the next phase to inject fresh and strong impetus into the development of bilateral relations. Both sides should promote in-depth integration between the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and Uzbekistan's national development strategy, and expand cooperation in economy, trade and investment. Efforts should be made to improve the connectivity construction, advance more frequent people-to-people and cultural exchanges and deepen counter-terrorism cooperation. The Chinese side supports the Uzbek side in hosting the Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). China is willing to reinforce coordination and cooperation with Uzbekistan to promote the SCO for faster and better development.

Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov said, thanks to the joint promotion of the two Heads of State, Uzbekistan-China relations have been upgraded to a high level of comprehensive strategic partnership, with abundant achievements in cooperation in various fields and solid political mutual trust between the two sides. The Uzbek side stands ready to get fully involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance connectivity. The Uzbek side firmly adheres to the One China policy, and firmly stands together with the Chinese side on issues concerning China's core interests. The Uzbek side has, together with the international community at large, sent a jointly-signed letter to President of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to support a series of deradicalizaiton measures taken by China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. No country is entitled to interfere in China's internal affairs. The Uzbek side is ready to enhance communication and coordination with the Chinese side within frameworks including the SCO to jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism and safeguard regional peace and stability. Both sides also exchanged views on promoting the process of political settlement of the Afghan issue, situation between India and Pakistan, and other topics.

After their talks, Wang Yi and Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov attended the inauguration of the new premises of the Uzbek Embassy in China and reception marking the 28th anniversary of the independence of Uzbekistan.
