The Ministry of Health has confirmed seven new cases of Influenza A (H1N1), bringing the total in the country to 18 cases:

The 12th case involves a 6-year-old boy who returned to Brunei Darussalam on 22nd June 2009, after visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 13th case is a 14 year-old girl who is a close contact of 8th case.

The 14th case is a 23 year-old male who is a close contact of the 1st case.

The 15th case is a foreign national aged 20 years who arrived in Brunei Darussalam from London on BI098 on the 24th June 2009 in transit to Kuala Lumpur. The patient has symptoms on arrival at Brunei International Airport Berakas. As a precautionary measures passengers on the same flights sitting on the same row as well as the 3 rows back and 3 rows front are being identified and will be contacted accordingly.

The 16th case is a 19 year old female who is a close contact of Case 4.

The 17th and 18th cases are close contacts and brothers to Case 3. Case 17 is 11 years old whilst Case 18 is 17 years old.
All cases are currently receiving treatment and are in good condition. Of the 18 cases confirmed to date, 10 of the cases had a history of overseas travel. The remaining 8 cases were close contacts of the 10 cases mentioned above.
Meanwhile, the first confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1) previously reported has recovered and discharged from Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Tutong today. Prior to discharge from the hospital, this first case has undergone tests to ensure that the patient is well and free of Influenza A (H1N1) infection.
