Picture: Syafie Nadi Friday, May 23, 2008 HER Royal Highness Princess Hjh Masna, acting minister of foreign affairs and trade, yesterday signed the condolence books for victims of earthquakes that struck China's Sichuan province and victims of the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar. On behalf of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Government, Her Royal Highness signed the condolence books at the Chinese Embassy and Myanmar Embassy in Brunei. Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Wang Wen Tian, Charge d' Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, and Moe Kyaw Aung, Charge d' Affaires of the Myanmar Embassy. An earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale rocked southwest China on May 12, causing more than 70,000 people dead or missing, and another five million left homeless. The official death toll from the Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar stood at 77,738 dead, and 55,917 were still missing. (HAN1) The Brunei Times |
