The Incentive Travel and Conventions Meeting (IT&CM), which runs from April 8-12, in Shanghai, China is positioned as a platform for industry members from all over the world to plug into China's highly potential MICE market.

Participating in the Brunei Tourism Booth at the event are: MICE Project Officer Faten Salwati Mahmud Shahrani, Tourism Officer Kartini Haji Kabri, GoodMiles Sdn Bhd MICE Division Manager Grace Virly, Century Travel General Manager Foo CP, PJ Majestic Managing Director Peter Chieng, Bonasia Holiday Executive Director Caroline Ang, Orchid Garden Hotel Operations Director Mohd Iswandi Maaruf, and Orchid Garden Hotel Sales and Marketing Director Anthony Kong.

In 2007, Brunei saw 29,958 arrivals from China (up by 48.14 per cent compared to the previous year) and the forecast for 2008 is a 20-per cent increase, including those from Hong Kong.

Royal Brunei Airlines flies four times a week to Shanghai. However, with the suspension of RBA flights to Shanghai, there will be a major decrease in arrivals from China.

The suspension has not, however, deterred the Brunei Tourism and the stakeholders from promoting the country as a MICE destination nor from attending trade and travel fairs in China, due largely to other airlines servicing at Brunei International Airport as well as RBA's connections with other Asean member countries.
