With the aim to deepen the friendly cooperative ties between the two countries while exploring opportunities for further cooperation pertaining to defence between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), H.E. Gen. Ge Zhenfeng, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese PLA, paid an official visit to Brunei Darussalam, from 25th to 27th February 2009.

During his visit, H.E. Gen. Ge Zhenfeng paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof and met with the Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force, Brigadier General Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud bin Haji Saidin and the Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, Colonel Awang Halim bin Mohd Yusof bin Masron to exchange views on promoting the defence cooperation between the two countries.
