8:08 p.m. 8th August 2008AD has imperishably been engraved upon the annals of Olympic Movement, when the Summer Games of the XXIX Olympiad was grandly opened with magnificence and splendor in Beijing of China. The spectacular firework display brightened up the sky and brought to this planet a sleepless night. The Five-Ring Olympic Flag, the Five-Star Red Flag, and flags of all other countries and regions, waving together, have performed to the entire humankind a chorus of One World One Dream.

One World One Dream fully reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic spirit---Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream. Athletes and friends from all over the world, inspired by the Olympic ideals and chanting this chorus, are determined to strive for a brighter future of the Olympic Movement. No matter what color their skins are, what language they speak, and what religion they believe in, they share the charm and joy of the Olympic Games, and seek together for the ideal of humankind for peace. We belong to the same world and we share the same aspiration and dream.

One World One Dream deeply manifests the value of harmony connoted in the concepts of the Beijing Olympic Games which are "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics". Since ancient times, "Harmony of Man with Nature" and "Peace Enjoys Priority" have remained the philosophies and ideals of the Chinese people in their pursuit of harmony between Man and Nature and harmony among people. Therefore, building a harmonious society and achieving harmonious development are the dream of ours and, I believe, will also be the dream of the whole world.

One World One Dream is simple in expression, but profound in meaning. It expresses the firm belief of a great nation, with a long civilization of 5,000 years and on her way towards modernization, which is committed to peaceful development of the country as well as the welfare and happiness of her people. It voices the aspiration of 1.3 billion Chinese people to contribute to the establishment of a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity.

An American scholar once said, Olympics is purely Occidental and deeply rooted in the Occidental civilization. Therefore, it is of epoch-making significance that the Olympic Games is held in an Oriental nation that boasts resplendent non-Occidental civilization. Being such a convergence of these two great civilizations, the Beijing Olympic Games has built an intercivilizational bridge for friendship and mutual understanding. We shall never forget Mr. Pierre de Coubertin, conceiver and founding father of modern Olympiad, who designed the Five-Ring Olympic flag which represents the union of the five continents.

Being a kingdom of unexpected treasures enjoying stability and prosperity, Brunei Darussalam is an important member of the international Olympic family. As the Abode of Peace, Brunei Darussalam is also widely eulogized for her adherence to peace and harmony, which is in line with what Olympicism stands for. Therefore, far away as I am from Beijing, I can still feel the great excitement and happiness when both the leadership and people of Brunei Darussalam are celebrating the Olympics along with us and the rest of the world. Yesterday evening, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam watched the Opening Ceremony in Beijing together with nearly 100 Heads of State or Government. Tens of thousands of Bruneian friends were also rejoicing in cheers and hilarity. From the Olympics, I felt the friendship of Bruneian people towards Chinese people and I felt the deep commitment of Bruneian people to a more peaceful, harmonious and beautiful world.

In this very regard, China is willing to work together with the international community including Brunei Darussalam to realize the dream shared by humankind. Our dream becomes one; the world unites as one.
