With the aim to strengthen the long friendly relation between both countries while exploring opportunities for further cooperation pertaining to defence between RBAF and the Chinese PLA, Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Armament Department of the People's Liberation Army of China, General Chen Bingde paid an official visit to Brunei Darussalam, from 19th to 21st August 2007.

During his visit, General Chen Bingde paid a courtesy call on His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. General Chen Bingde also met with the Deputy Minister of Defence,Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (R) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar and the Commander of the RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof separately to exchange views on promoting the defence cooperation between the two countries.
