2007-08-14

On 3 August 2007, with a view to obtaining further knowledge of Brunei and its petrol industry, the diplomatic staff of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, led by Her Excellency Ambassador Tong Xiaoling, paid a visit to the Oil & Gas Discovery Center and Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria.

Upon arrival, Madame Tong Xiaoling and the staff were warmly welcomed by Mr. Iskandar, the Director of the Center. After a short briefing on the Centre, Mr. Iskandar  showed us around the exhibition hall of the Center. By way of models, drawing templates, multimedia and some other methods, the exhibition introduces how petroleum and natural gas was formed, preserved, surveyed, exploited and transported. It also provides a lot of fun games for all ages that are inspiring and enjoyable.

After a 5-minute drive from the Center, we arrived at the Billionth Barrel Monument. Facing the South China Sea, the Monument was built in 1991 and is located near the site of "Seria-1" Oil Field. It was in commemoration of the billionth barrel of petroleum oil exploited from the Seria-1 Oil Field and the contribution of this oil field to the economy of Brunei.
