On 19 October, H.E. Ambassador Yang Yanyi of China had a telephone interview with RTB as part of the latter's Radio Program "Raya with Their Excellencies". Following is the full text of Ambassador Yang's Message on the Occasion of Hari Raya Celebration. Selamat Hari Raya. On this joyful occasion of Hari Raya, as Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam, I wish to extend to His Majesty The Sultan, His Royal Family and the people of Brunei Darussalam the warm wishes for the festive season of the Chinese people. As one of the most anticipated celebrations in Brunei, this coming Hari Raya promises to be the brightest and the most meaningful event since it takes place in a special year when the whole nation celebrates the 60th Birthday of His Majesty. Surrounded with glittering lights, colorful decorations and festive sounds, we heartily join the Malay-Muslim community and the non-Malays in this exciting and cheerful celebration. For some 20 million Muslims in my country, China, and billions of Muslim friends all over the world, Hari Raya is an occasion to revere Islam which gave birth to a rich civilization. It signifies a personal triumph, a victory of self-restraint, abstinence and caring for and sharing with those who need assistance most. It is an embodiment of Malay heritage and lifestyle which is an integral part of Brunei's much treasured offerings. Soaked in the warm atmosphere of Hari Raya and immersed in the essence of Malay culture, we are greatly touched and inspired by the sense of purification and renewal. This year's Hari Raya also coincides with Mid-Autum Festival and Deepavali of Chinese and Indian communities this September and October. The celebration of the three major festivals here in Brunei Darussalam features the fusion of multi-cross-cultural coexistence and speaks volume of the common belief in and commitment to making the Abode of Peace a harmonious and prosperous one. This triple feast is a unique experience that cannot be missed and will always be cherished. On this auspicious day, I also wish to express our readiness and commitment to working together with the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam to advance peace, harmony and development so as to build a future full of promise and compassion for all. In conclusion, May His Majesty and the Royal Family enjoy good health, happiness, and prosperity. May the people of Brunei Darussalam be blessed with spiritual and mental well-being, good fortune, harmony and honour. |
