Your Excellency Dato Erywan, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam,

senior officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health,

ladies and gentlemen, friends from the media:

Just now, with the concerted efforts from the relevant departments of both Chinese and Bruneian governments, 100,000 doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines and 102,400 accompanying syringes donated by the government and people of the People's Republic of China to the government and people of Brunei Darussalam, have arrived in Brunei International Airport. This is the second time China donated vaccines to Brunei after the first batch of 52,000 doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines in February this year. It is also the second time for Minister Dato Erywan and me to stand at the airport to receive the donated vaccines from China. These vaccines stand as a testament to the profound friendship from the Chinese government and its people, as well as China's firm support for Brunei's fight against COVID-19. We are very glad to be able to join the Bruneian government in its efforts to curb the spread of the pandemic in the country and to safeguard the well-being of its people.

With the COVID-19 raging all over the world, highly infectious variants and mutant strains spreading at faster speed, vaccine is a powerful weapon to prevail over the pandemic and revive the economy. China upholds the vision of a community of common health for mankind, and has been consistently calling for closer international cooperation on vaccines. Even when China's vaccine production capacity had not yet reached a sizable scale and domestic demand for vaccination had been rising sharply, China, overcoming huge difficulties, has started supplying vaccines to countries with urgent need, endeavoring to make contributions to ensuring vaccine accessibility in the developing countries. To date, China has provided over one billion doses of Chinese vaccines, the largest amount in the world, to more than 100 countries and international organizations. Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned that in the course of this year, China will strive to provide 2 billion doses of vaccines to the world, and has decided to donate US$100 million to the COVAX for distributing vaccines to developing countries. China has also launched the Initiative for Belt and Road Partnership on COVID-19 Vaccines Cooperation, the China-ASEAN Public Health Cooperation Initiative, and continued to improve the "China-ASEAN vaccine friends" platform. China will continue to make contributions to the achievement of equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines of the developing countries.

Since last year, in the face of the pandemic, China and Brunei have worked hand in hand, speaking volumes about the Kampong Spirit of sharing weal and woe. The pragmatic cooperation in various fields between our two countries and the friendship between our two peoples have been deepened and advanced in the course of anti-pandemic cooperation. Brunei has recently been hit by the second wave. Under the strong leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, the Bruneian government has taken strong prevention and control measures, and Bruneian people are united as one. The dedication of the frontline medical workers and volunteers touched us deeply, and we pay great tribute to them. After the outbreak of the second wave, Chinese company BGI responded swiftly to the request of the Bruneian government, and coordinated the arrival of experts and the delivery of equipments in less than a week. The 1st mobile inflatable Huo Yan laboratory in Southeast Asia was put to operation in no time, substantially improving the daily testing capacity. Hengyi Industries donated much-needed supplies and equipments to the Huo Yan lab to support its smooth and safe operation. Evyd Technology continued its upgrading of the BruHealth App, which is playing an increasingly important role in the case tracking and quarantine management. The Muara Port Company has waived port and terminal fees for all the medical supplies and equipments.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. Over the past 30 years, our bilateral relations have made enormous progress that we take pride in. As a good friend, good neighbor and good partner, the Chinese side sincerely hopes that the Bruneian side will bring the pandemic under control as soon as possible, achieve economic recovery and restore the livelihood. China stands in solidarity with Brunei. Stay strong, Brunei!
