Chinese Embassy Held a Reception to Celebrate the 94th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPLA

On the evening of July 27, Senior Colonel Li Jianzhong, Defense Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, held a reception to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (CPLA) at Rizqun Hotel Bandar Seri Begawan. About 100 people attended the event, including Ambassador H. E. Yu Hong and spouse, and some major diplomats from the Embassy, the Minister of Defense II, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General(U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General(Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Ma’awiah, and other government and military officials, as well as representatives of Diplomatic missions in Brunei, Chinese enterprises and Chinese communities.

Senior Colonel Li Jianzhong said in his remarks that with China's development, the CPLA has assumed more and more international responsibilities and obligations. China takes concrete actions to safeguard world peace and actively participates in the UN peacekeeping operations. The CPLA has provided epidemic control supplies to the militaries of more than 50 countries and shared the anti-epidemic experiences, and donated vaccines to more than 20 armed forces. The contributions of the Chinese military have been highly recognized and extensively welcomed by the international community.

Li Jianzhong said that this year marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China. Over the past century, the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people in continuous struggle, achieved national independence and liberation, advanced reform and opening up, and made great achievements in building socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. Not long ago, His Majesty the Sultan sent a congratulatory letter to Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping, complimenting China's extraordinary economic achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and its important contribution to regional development and prosperity.

Li Jianzhong said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brunei. The traditional friendship between China and Brunei has withstood the test of time and grown even more vigorous. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the people of our two countries have joined hands to help each other overcome difficulties. This February, Brunei became the fourth country to receive the COVID-19 vaccine donation from China. Last September, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe made a successful visit to Brunei and brought new progress in the relations between the two countries and two militaries. The MoND of China and the MinDef of Brunei, the CPLA and the RBAF also enjoy friendly and cooperative ties. Both sides reached important consensus on maintaining strategic communication and deepening military exchanges and cooperation.

The guests extended warm congratulations for the 94th anniversary of the founding of the CPLA and expressed appreciation for its great achievements obtained by the CPLA, actively commended the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries and wished the friendship between the two militaries further enhanced.
