Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong Attended The MOU Signing Ceremony Between Hengyi Industries And PB

On 13 March, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd and Politeknik Brunei was held in Bandar Seri Begawan. H.E. Ms.Yu Hong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister II of Finance and Economy Dato Amin Liew, Minister of Energy Dato Mat Suny and Minister of Education Dato Hamzah attended the event.

During the ceremony, Mr.Chen Liancai, CEO of Hengyi Industries and Mr.Lim Kian Boon, Acting Director of PB delivered their respective speech, introducing Hengyi’s talents localization drive strategy, current progress and prospect of the joint program. Under the witness of the guests, Hengyi Industries and PB inked the MoU. Mr.Chen Liancai issued conditional employment notice to 85 enrolled students. After the ceremony, the guests glanced over the exhibiting posters on the joint program and interacted with the students present as well. With its firm determination to further advance the localization strategy, Hengyi has taken a big leap in expanding the scale of enterprise-college cooperation, which is a significant action to help Brunei develop its vocational education and technical education required by the downstream oil and gas industry.

With the assistance from Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic College (LPP) in China, the joint program covers seven majors with three-year education. Two majors have already commenced whereas the remaining five are to begin this July. The joint program, along with Hengyi’s other two programs, namely the “UBD-Zhejiang University-Hengyi” program and the “IBTE-LPP-Hengyi” program will cultivate and reserve valuable local management and technical talents for Hengyi.

Mr. Wang Haitao, DCM of the Chinese Embassy, Deputy Minister of Education Datin Romaizah, Deputy Minister of Energy Dato Matsatejo, Permanent Secretaries of Ministry of Finance and Economy Haji Khairuddin and Dr May Fa'ezah, other senior government officials and the representatives of Brunei’s universities were also present.
