Logo Design Competition for the 30th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between China and Brunei was Launched

On 30 September 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, Brneian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports jointly held the launching ceremony of Logo Design Competition for the 30th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations of China and Brunei at Rizqun International Hotel, Bandar Seri Begawan. Chinese Ambssador H.E. Ms. Yu Hong and spouse Mr. Yu Jie, Permanent Secretary of Bruneian Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.E. Pengiran Norhashimah, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports H.E. Dr Siti Norkhalbi attended the ceremony. Officials from the Bruneian government, Economic and Commercial Counsellor Ms. Kang Wen, representatives from local English, Malay and Chinese media, Radio Television Brunei, Pelita Brunei, Brunei Press, United Daily, See Hua Daily and Sin Chew Daily included, and other non-traditional media also participated in the ceremony.

In her remarks, Ambassador Yu Hong said, today is the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam. Tomorrow, 1st of October, is the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Moreover, Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important Chinese traditional holiday, falls on the national day this year. We are very happy to launch this logo competition commemorating the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic relations with you all on the occasion of this special and meaningful moment.

Ambassador mentioned that since the establishment of diplomatic relation between China and Brunei on 30 September 1991, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries and the comprehensive support of the people on both sides, the bilateral relationship had enjoyed a rapid development. The year of 2013 witnessed the establishment of a strategic cooperative relationship, which was upgraded to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2018. There were frequent high-level visits between the two sides. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visited China 12 times, both president and premier of China paid multiple visits to Brunei. The visit of the State Councilor and Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe concluded early this month which helped to enhance the further cooperation of the two countries. We set up Joint Intergovernmental Steering Committee and mechanism of exchanges in various fields such as political and economic consultations, which vigorously promoted pragmatic cooperation that continuously achieves new results.

Ambassador elaborated that the year of 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. 30 years means steadily moving towards the goal and approaching maturity. The multitudes of challenges facing today’s world is vastly different from 30 years ago. Yet, peace and development remain the underlying trend of the times, and people everywhere crave even more strongly for peace, development and win-win cooperation. China and Brunei set a good example of relations between countries of different sizes based on equality and mutual benefit for common development. China will continue working with Brunei to jointly assume responsibilities, fulfil mission and address challenges.

Ambassador said that to celebrate the coming 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei, after close communication and coordination, the Chinese Embassy in Brunei together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei co-organize the 30th Anniversary Commemorative Logo Design Competition. The best design will be jointly selected by the organizers and used in the celebration next year. The Bruneian and Chinese citizens residing in Brunei from various sectors, especially young people and students, are welcome to participate. We are looking forward to seeing designs that are full of imagination and capture the theme prominently. We wish the competition a huge success. I also hope that the seated media friends could promote this competition as well as our friendship through your respective platform to attract more people to take part in this competition.

At last, Ambassador expressed that in the process of responding to the epidemic since beginning of this year, the people of China and Brunei have supported each other, with cooperation strengthened, mutual trust deepened and friendship enhanced. I sincerely hope that we could join our efforts together and continue moving our strategic cooperative partnership onto new heights.

Ambassador H.E. Ms. Yu Hong then pressed the botton with Permanent Secretary H.E. Pengiran Norhashimah and Deputy Permanent Secretary H.E. Dr Siti Norkhalbi to officially launch the competition. The competition is open to all Bruneian and Chinese citizens who are residing in Brunei, especially the youth and students. Its deadline is 3pm on 19 November 2020, Beijing time.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Siti Norkhalbi congratulated China’s National Day and Mid-Autumn Fesitival. She said, with the joint efforts from both sides, the cooperation has been strengthened. In the culture field, exchanges brought more understanding of each other’s culture and history.
