Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong Attended Chinese Government Anti-epidemic Materials Handover Ceremony

On 23 April, H.E. Ambassador Yu Hong and Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health of Brunei Darussalam, attended the handover ceremony of anti-epidemic materials contributed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to the Government of Brunei Darussalam. Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Nor bin Haji Jeludin, representative of Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health of Brunei Darussalam, also attended the ceremony. The materials for contribution include 100,000 N95 respirators and 1,000 disposable isolation gowns and arrived in Brunei by Royal Brunei Airline charter flight on the evening of 22 April.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in prevention of and joint responding to the epidemic.

Ambassador Yu Hong commended that, facing the challenges of COVID-19 outbreak, China and Brunei have been working together and helping each other. China appreciates the assistance and support provided by the Bruneian side. Although still faced with difficulties, China decided to provide medical supplies to Brunei, and delivered them in a timely manner through Royal Brunei Airline charter flight, which fully demonstrated the high level of the Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples. China hopes that the relevant materials will support Brunei to better protect the front-line medical personnel and help for the final victory of fighting against the epidemic.

Minister Dato Dr. Isham expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for contributing the anti-epidemic materials. China’s generosity is particularly invaluable in the current context. Dato said that, the two countries have actively cooperated in fighting against the epidemic and effectively prevented the spread in their respective countries. Brunei is willing to continue to strengthen the health cooperation and contribute to the long-term development of the bilateral relations.

On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, H.E. Ambassador Yu Hong also made a donation of BND$60,000 to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
