Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Held the Reception to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to the People's Republic of China

On December 17th, 2019, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Brunei Daussalam held the reception to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to the People's Republic of China. Around 150 people from all walks of life in Brunei, diplomatic envoys, representatives of Chinese attended the ceremony.

In her remarks, Ambassador Yu Hong said over the past 20 years, the Macao Special Administrative Region government has united people from all walks of life to fully accurately understand and implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and inherited the core values of loving the country and Macao.With rapid economic growth, Macao has become one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Ambassador Yu said 20 years since the return,Macao has given full play to the advantages of "one country, two systems", adhered to the foundation of "one country", made good use of the benefits of "two systems".It has taken the initiative to integrate itself into the overall development of the country, and complemented and developed together with mainland China. Macao and mainland China benefited from each other’s development with the links getting stronger and stronger.The successful practice of "one country, two systems" in Macao has demonstrated that it is a workable solution welcomed by the people.

Ambassador Yu stressed "One country, two systems" is a great initiative of socialism with Chinese characteristics and an important part of China's national governance system.It is the basic principle of the Chinese government in dealing with the affairs of Hong Kong and Macao and an important system for the peaceful reunification of China."One country, two systems" is a holistic concept. The "one country" is the premise and basis of the "two systems," and the "two systems" is subordinate to and derived from "one country."

On China-Brunei relations and exchanges between Macau and Brunei, Ambassador Yu said in September this year, a delegation from the Ministry of Commerce of China with businessmen from Macao visited Brunei and held a joint mainland China-Macao investment promotion event in Brunei to explore opportunities for China-Brunei infrastructure cooperation.In March this year, the office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region invited the Brunei Muara district officer to visit Macao and Guangdong province, showcasing development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the reception, the video of "Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Return of the Macao Special Administrative Region" and the Photo Exhibition of Macao were displayed. The guests praised the achievements happened in Macao and also the great practice of "one country, two systems".

The reception was covered by the Borneo Bulletin and other three Chinese newspapers.
