Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs,
Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Roselan bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office,
Mr Xu Luode, Executive Vice President of Bank of China,
Mr Lin Jingzhen, Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong),
Your Excellencies, Ambassadors and High Commissioners,
It is my great pleasure to attend the opening ceremony of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Brunei Branch. The coming to Brunei of Bank of China marks a new stage of cooperation between China and Brunei.
Bank of China has a history of more than one hundred years. Its first overseas branch was established as early as 1929 in London. It was indeed a pioneer in the overseas development of China's financial institutions.
Bank of China (Hong Kong) is a leading listed commercial banking group in Hong Kong. It has more than 200 branches in Hong Kong, offering a comprehensive range of financial, investment and wealth management services to personal, corporate and institutional customers. Bank of China (Hong Kong) is one of the three note-issuing banks and the Clearing Bank for Renminbi business in Hong Kong.
The expansion of business in Southeast Asia by Bank of China is closely related to the continuous upgrading of China's relations with Asean countries. The relationship between China and Brunei is excellent. Bilateral cooperation is expanding in many fields. It is my firm belief that the Brunei Branch of Bank of China (Hong Kong) will provide high quality financial services to Bruneian enterprises as well as China's enterprises, serve the local society, and help further promote the economic and trade cooperation between China and Brunei.
I wish Bank of China (Hong Kong) Brunei Branch great success!
