Q: The reform of the UN Security Council is one of the important issues that draw world attention. How do you comment on that?
A: China stands for necessary and reasonable reform of the UN Security Council to strengthen its authority and efficiency and better fulfill its primary obligations of safeguarding international peace and security as accorded by the UN Charter. The reform should give priority to increasing the representativeness of the developing countries in the UN Security Council. As for disputes among UN members on the reform of the Security Council, we always maintain that the parties should respect each other and communicate candidly to seek the broadest consensus through democratic and patient consultation, with a view to reaching a package of settlements.
